2000 Annual Seminar, Rancho Mirage, California The Financial Lawyers Conference conducted its Annual Seminar to kick off the new millennium at the Rancho Las Palmas Marriott Resort on February 25 – 27, 2000. The Seminar moderator was Professor Bruce A. Markell of the William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Professor Markell has enjoyed an ever-growing reputation in the National Bankruptcy Bar, and is currently a member of the National Bankruptcy Conference, and a contributing author to numerous chapters in Collier on Bankruptcy, 15th Edition Revised. The Annual Seminar, involving 60 active practitioners and academics, provided 12 hours of seminar discussion focused on several areas of law and new developments affecting practice under chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. We discussed issues raised by Supreme Court decisions such as new value under 203 North LaSalle, Mareva Injunctions, and the intersection of state sovereign immunity under the 11th Amendment and Chapter 11 practice. The Seminar also covered the application of proposed Revised Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code to various bankruptcy issues, and the effect of new proposed cross-boarder insolvency provisions to be added to the Bankruptcy Code. The Seminar was informative and challenging for all participants, and supported by great weather, the activities between Seminar sessions were enjoyed by all.
